The more they stay the same, right? After ten months here in Juarez del Norte, we’re on the move again. I haven’t been blogging lately because of my “Do not blog pissed off” rule and also because WP is being a little weird. I spent half a day working on a 100 things about me post that was getting me nowhere and gave up for far too long. Like my three readers care…
Anyway, what’s new with you? Three weeks ago, I would have told you that we were headed to Wichita, KS and very excited about it. I’m a researcher, you know, so when Wichita orders arrived on my birthday I started checking out housing, schools, stuff to do, the job market, yada, yada, yada. We were ready to go! Until the 15th.
At 2:00 p.m. on the 15th of May, we got a pleasant little surprise from the Army. Turns out the Army is FULL of them. “Congratulations 1SG!”. This kind of e-mail is normally good news but not so much when the movers are two weeks away. Our orders to Kansas were cancelled the following Monday and, since nothing is official without orders, we were in limbo. Now, we’re not in limbo. We’re headed to Fort Lewis. This is okay. It’s a nice area. I think the job market will be better and the schools are also good. No, I am not re-starting the PhD. Don’t ask. When Sarge makes his terminal rank and we can expect to be somewhere for awhile, I’ll think about it. But we’ve hit a point where nothing’s guaranteed but his eventual retirement for quite awhile.
So, it’s a fun ride, huh? Despite the changes, we were able to hold our original pack and ship dates which is nice. Our movers come for their pre-visit tomorrow. The school year is winding down and I am just so done. Ready. To. Go.
I shall endeavor to keep you updated as much as possible over the next phase of our adventure.
